Pairie Theatre Exchange offers a five-play season of new & contemporary plays for adults, with a focus on local and Canadian work, as well as an annual TYA offering over the winter break, which then tours the city and province in the new year. The Carol Shields Festival of New Work
May 24 - 26, 2018
An annual celebration of the act of creation, featuring partnerships with other theatres, dance companies and musicians, and new plays or works in progress presented as staged readings, including five 10 minute plays commissioned specifically for the Festival. All readings are free admission, with an Opening Gala at only $25 for an evening of new theatre, music, dance and spoken word poetry.
New Play Development Activities:
In addition to offering multiple commissions each year, PTE maintains a Playwrights Unit of ten established and emerging playwrights, offering support, space and freedom to write. PTE has also premiered 149 new plays over the past 45 years, with the 150th (Joseph Aragon's How the Heavens Go) set to premiere this season.
PTE maintains a Theatre & Film School - in fact, PTE began as a theatre school in 1972. Classes are offered for kids, youth and adults at all levels, and include improv, musical theatre, play writing, acting for film and TV and more.
